Computer Use: |
Computers are available in the media center for student use. Students wishing to use these computers must first show their signed agendas to the media specialist and sign in on the "Computer Sign-In Log". When signing in, students should list the topic or assignment to be worked on. The computers are to be used for educational purposes only. Students are charged five cents per page for printing from the Internet. Students are to ask permission of the media staff before printing.
Students may access the Internet for academic-related purposes only.
Students coming to the media center to use the Internet must have their research objective indicated in the signed agenda.
Students may check out books for two-week intervals and may renew these unless someone else has requested them. Students will be allowed to check out 2 books at a time. Students with overdue books or who owe library fines will not be allowed to check out anything else until their overdue books have been returned and all library fines paid. Students will not be allowed to receive progress reports/report cards until overdue books are returned. Reference books, magazines, and reserve materials are available for check-out overnight only. Books and other materials should be returned to the book-return slot at the circulation desk so that they will be checked in properly. DO NOT LEAVE THEM ON THE CIRCULATION DESK OR ON ANY BOOK CART
Overdue fines will NOT be charged on general circulation items. The student will, however, not be allowed to check out more materials until the overdue items have been returned. The fine for overnight materials (magazines, reference and reserve) is $.05 per school day. Although library media center staff will issue overdue notices, it is the student’s responsibility to return books on time. All overdue items must be returned before finals each semester. If overdue materials are not cleared prior to semester finals, students will not receive their semester progress reports.
Students are responsible for the replacement cost of all lost or damaged library materials. The cost of lost materials will be current purchase price. Students who return damaged books will be assessed charges depending on the severity of the damage.

Check-out: Books |
Teachers may check-out books for 3-week periods and may request an extension if the item is not needed for immediate use by another teacher or student for a class assignment.
Teachers will be allowed to check out reference materials for a period of 1 week. Extensions will be granted if materials are not needed for immediate use by others.
Audiovisual materials are available for checkout to faculty and staff, but should be returned as soon as the staff member has finished using them, so that items are available for others to use. Students may not check out audio visual materials but are allowed to view or listen to materials in the media center if space and equipment are available. Students need to see the media specialist to make such arrangements.
Audiovisual equipment is available for short and extended check-outs by faculty members only. Students may not check out equipment on their own but teachers may check out equipment for them to use in classroom presentations, etc. Equipment must be checked out by media center personnel. For daily check-outs, equipment should be returned by

Lost / Damaged Materials: |
Teachers are responsible for the replacement cost of all lost or damaged library materials.
Since resource-based teaching is an effective teaching strategy, teachers are encouraged to collaborate with the media specialist on lesson plans calling for the use of the media center’s resources. That way, the teacher and media center staff can cooperatively plan units of instruction to include the services that the students need, the materials to be used, and the number of class periods required to complete the assignment. For that reason, teachers are asked to consult with the media specialist when scheduling class visits. To ensure the availability of space and resources, teachers are asked to sign up for class visits at least 3 days in advance. When students are working on research projects in the library, state standards require the teacher to be available to render assistance and see that students are on task.
Teachers may send up to five students at a time to the media center without signing up beforehand, as long as they understand that computers may not be available.
The media specialist and the teacher will collaborate to determine the materials to be placed on reserve for student use on a class project. The resource materials will be entered into the computer as reserved and placed on a shelf/cart in the media center with the teacher’s name. Reserved books cannot be checked out while students are coming for scheduled visits as a class to work on a project. After classes are no longer coming as a group, reserved materials can be checked out for overnight use after 2:30pm and must be returned by 8:30am the next morning. Books are returned to normal check-out status once the deadline for the class project has passed.
